Tutor: Joe Smith
A year-long course. We will investigate techniques to build your family tree using your computer from your own home. Some face-to-face tutoring could possibly be arranged to get set up. We will use the biggest free family tree building website: familysearch.org, but we can also look at the paid sites if necessary. You will only need your parents' birth details, name, date and place and death details if they have passed. Having your grandparents' details will make it easier. New students encouraged to join at the start of each subsequent term: Mon 21st Apr, Mon 14th Jul, Mon 6th Oct.
Monday 7.00pm - 8.00pm. Classes start 14 July, finish 15 September.
Cost: $25 (prepaid), 10 weeks
Current Enrolments: 12 (full capacity)
Once we cover the basics, we will look at specific trees of students and try to solve problems.
The paid sites could be subscribed to now and then, for a short time (e.g. one month, or when they have their special discounts) to collect original documents. There will be classes on public holidays.
I have given a talk on this topic for the Caloundra Family History Research Association, which I used to be a member of and have traced my family back at least 6 generations, seven except for one Irish couple, and up to 14 generations for some lines. Once you go that far back, you will be related to millions of people and it's interesting to find out the famous ones.
About the Tutor:
I completed a major in Mandarin Chinese at UQ in 2004. I have studied a few languages and taught beginners' Thai in the main Brisbane Thai Buddhist Temple's Thai Cultural School, near Browns Plains. There I found out that the native primary school trained teachers, did not have experience teaching the tones, because they had only taught primary students, who were already fluent speakers. Thai and Chinese grammars are very similar and they are both tonal languages. I have kept up to 13 hives of bees for 7+ years.Unfortunately this class is over-subscribed and no further enrolments can be accepted at this time. You may contact the tutor to express your interest should a vacancy arise.
