Tutor: Joe Smith
This course is offered for the whole year and each class is recorded, so you don't have to worry about missing any. Thai grammar is very easy: there are no plural nouns and no different tenses of verbs. Numbers indicate plurals, and other words, such as "yesterday", show time/tense. Thai language is tonal, like Chinese, but it has an alphabet, unlike Chinese, because of the influence of India. We will focus on common spoken Thai.
Thursday 7.00pm - 8.00pm. Classes start 17 July, finish 18 September.
Cost: $25 (prepaid), 10 weeks
Current Enrolments: 2 (maximum 10)
The course starts afresh from January each year and runs all year. I post recordings of the classes for those who cannot make any class for any reason, or for anyone to revise as often as they like. If you want to start in later terms, you may like to catch up by following the recorded classes and we can arrange a personal class now and then.
About the Tutor:
I completed a major in Mandarin Chinese at UQ in 2004. I have studied a few languages and taught beginners' Thai in the main Brisbane Thai Buddhist Temple's Thai Cultural School, near Browns Plains. There I found out that the native primary school trained teachers, did not have experience teaching the tones, because they had only taught primary students, who were already fluent speakers. Thai and Chinese grammars are very similar and they are both tonal languages. I have kept up to 13 hives of bees for 7+ years. If you are a U3A Brisbane member you may enrol in this class online using the Enrol button below.
