J69 FRENCH - CONVERSATION FOR ADVANCED BEGINNERS (EMAIL-BASED)

This class continues the study of the French language and French-speaking cultures, with emphasis on the development of communication skills and basic structures. It is conducted via email and suitable for members who cannot attend face-to-face classes and are prepared to study the textbook at home as guided by the tutor. Textbook: "Communication Progressive du Francais", niveau intermediaire, 2e edition. Note that this class and J179 have the same content.
6 weeks. Classes start 16 July, finish 20 August.

This course offers you an introduction to the study of language and culture in the French Studies discipline. The course is designed to equip you with the skills necessary to become independent language learners and to develop awareness and understanding of French-speaking cultures throughout the world.
At the end of this course, in terms of language skills gained, you could:-
* understand isolated phrases and common expressions that relate to areas of high personal relevance (like personal or family information, shopping, immediate environment, work);
* communicate during easy or habitual tasks requiring a basic and direct information exchange on familiar subjects;
* use simple words to describe your surroundings and communicate immediate needs.

Note: in addition to the prescribed text, other relevant French textbooks and multi-media materials will also be referenced to for conversation exercises and additional vocabulary and grammar skills.
