X27 AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC POLICY EXPLORING OPTIONS FOR REFORM

Tutor: Prue Brown
Enough of the complaining about the state of the world! In this course we will look at 3-4 topical issues of interest to the class and/or the subject of an inquiry to develop practical ideas for reform. Possible issues might include anything from the rise of the 'manosphere' to gambling addiction to racism to political disengagement, but we will use the first class to reach an agreement on the issues and the focus. For each issue we will then draw on a number of different established techniques to analyse the issue and develop options for a new policy over the course of two weeks.
Venue: 97 Creek St
Monday 9.15am - 10.45am. 8 weeks. Classes start 14 July, finish 1 September.
Cost: $40 (prepaid), 8 weeks
Current Enrolments: 3  (capacity 9)

About the Tutor:

Dr Prue Brown has been teaching governance and public policy at UQ for the last eight years. Prior to that she worked in senior policy roles in the public sector relating to Indigenous land, housing, local government and justice as well as more general policy coordination roles for nearly 20 years. She has worked for the Northern Territory, Australian and Queensland governments. During that time she coordinated and wrote many submissions to government and parliamentary Inquiries, both locally and nationally. She firmly believes that a diversity of voices needs to be heard in policy processes and that the knowledge and experience of U3A members can be brought to bear to strengthen our democracy.
