This course critically explores the history of the people and land of Israel, located at the crossroads of three continents. It traces the journey from the Hebrews and the Kingdom of Israel, including their foundational texts, through exile, diaspora, and return, examining identity, values, and challenges in historical context. Topics include cultural contributions, Zionism, antisemitism, assimilation, and the interplay of faith, nationhood, geography, and archaeology. Through engaging presentations and discussions, participants gain insight into the enduring legacy and evolving story of the Jewish people and the land of Israel.
Venue: 232 Adelaide St
Wednesday 11.15am - 12.45pm. Classes start 28 January, finish 1 April.
Cost: $50 (prepaid), 10 weeks

About the Tutor:

Yehiel is an Israeli-American, Israel Tour Guide Course graduate, retired psychotherapist using cognitive and meaning-based therapies, teacher and writer. He has lived in Jerusalem, a kibbutz, Sinai and San Francisco and been a California rancher, social worker and U.S. Army Intelligence officer. He covertly rescued Ethiopian Jews from Sudan to Israel and was a lobbyist in Washington. He values family, friends, learning, music, hiking and diverse cultures. He studied history, Jewish thought, philosophy, critical thinking, psychology, strategy, anthropology, cosmology etc.
