This is a year-long course, studying the French language and culture, for people who have completed the 'Basic Travellers' Conversation - Beginners' course or equivalent, with continued emphasis on the development of communicative skills and basic structures. The course combines in-class instruction and practice with self-paced study at home as guided by the tutor. Textbook: Communication en dialogues, niveaux A2/B1, author Evelyne Sirjols, publisher CLE International, ISBN 978-2-09-038063-7.
Venue: 232 Adelaide St
Wednesday 1.00pm - 2.15pm. Classes start 28 January, finish 1 April.
Cost: $50 (prepaid), 10 weeks

This course offers you an introduction to the study of language and culture in the French Studies discipline. The course is designed to equip you with the skills necessary to become independent language learners and to develop awareness and understanding of French-speaking cultures throughout the world.
At the end of this course, in terms of language skills gained, you could:-
* understand isolated phrases and common expressions that relate to areas of high personal relevance (like personal or family information, shopping, immediate environment, travelling, and work);
* communicate during easy or habitual tasks requiring a basic and direct information exchange on familiar subjects; and
* use simple words to describe your surroundings and communicate immediate needs.
Note: in addition to the prescribed text, other relevant French textbooks and multi-media materials will also be referenced to for conversation exercises and additional vocabulary and grammar skills.
