In Term 1 we are reading 'People of the Book' by Geraldine Brooks. Inspired by a true story, "People of the Book" traces the harrowing journey of the famed Sarajevo Haggadah, a beautifully illuminated Hebrew manuscript created in fifteenth-century Spain. It is one of the oldest surviving Jewish illuminated texts. 'In 2008, this novel won the Australian Book Industry Award (ABIA) Book of the Year and Literary Fiction Book of the Year.' (Wikipedia)
Thursday 9.00am - 10.15am. Classes start 29 January, finish 2 April.
Cost: $25 (prepaid), 10 weeks

We have one set book per term which we will discuss in depth in class. The discussion may include character development, context, writing style etc. Towards the end of Term class members will be given the opportunity to discuss other books they recommend or are currently reading and would like included in future classes.

About the Tutor:

Deslyn TaylorDeslyn Taylor has had a long career in both primary and secondary education. She first started working with computers in 1983 while teaching Mathematics, English and Geography. In 1987 she was appointed Computer Co-ordinator at Stuartholme School and eventually became ICT Director, a position she held until her retirement in 2010.

Deslyn holds an Arts Degree from UQ majoring in Mathematics and Geography, Grad. Dip Comp. Ed (QUT) and Masters in Education (QUT). She enjoys reading, golf, painting, walking and, of course, playing with computers, and has been teaching computer classes at U3A since 2012. Deslyn also plays bass guitar. She has 3 children and two grandchildren.
