M03 Popular Music Sessions -

Tutor: Peter O'Reilly
Electronic music, instruments and production have changed everything in music. The definition of what's included is fuzzy but we will get to listen to 'Doctor Who' theme song, Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, 80s synth pop, Daft Punk, Avicii, The Chemical Brothers, Fat Boy Slim. Australia contributes a lot with Percy Grainger, the Fairlight CM1 and contemporary artists including Sonicanimation, Flume, Dead Can Dance, Paul Mac, The Avalanches, RFS DU SOL and more. A key objective remains to take the time to listen, enjoy and explore music in the company of others. This is known to magnify the joy and benefits of listening to music.
Venue: 232 Adelaide St
Tuesday 10.30am - 12.00pm. Fortnightly 7/10, 21/10, 4/11, 18/11, 2/12. Classes start 27 January, finish 31 March.
Cost: $25 (prepaid), 5 weeks
Current Enrolments: 17  (maximum 25)

Terms on Jazz and Blues traced their massive impact on music and culture in the Twentieth Century. Now it's time to dive into the transformative impact of electronics (and the digital domain). It changes everything - the technology for recording and sharing music, the sounds and compositions that are possible. The breadth of music is extraordinary!

About the Tutor:

I studied and tutored Psychology at the University of Queensland before my professional career took me into behavioural and market research, business strategy, change management, negotiation (conflict) and more with a range of Government and private businesses. Throughout I enjoyed training people in communications, negotiation, change management, leadership, stress management, team development, business culture and more. My strength is as a generalist, both in terms of diagnosing situations and developing customised responses. Side projects included sports psychology, climbing, mountaineering and cycling. Underscoring everything has been the theory, application and sharing of psychology. Educating people in psychology for applied settings has been one of the joys of my career.
