At one time, societal expectations usually decided a woman's options in career and lifestyle. Through determination, persistence and curiosity, many enjoyed lives as ornithologists, plant collectors, sculptors, illustrators, and also as NASA scientists. Their legacies are artworks, scientific advances, and an insight into times past. Learn of their experiences in Queensland's forests and cane fields, Amazonia, and the rock fields of the Pilbara.
District: Westside Venue: Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-Tha Road, Toowong
Thursday 10.30am - 11.30am. 1 weeks. Class date 5 March. One week only.
Current Enrolments: 10 (full capacity)

During this walk, you will learn about several women who have led unusual lives. Each one has a strong connection with Queensland or our Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. The link could be artistic, scientific or a contribution to Queensland's natural history. Four of the five will be new to this 2026 walk.
We will be in shade most of the time, but please bring a hat, and wear comfortable shoes. Where possible, we will find somewhere to sit but be aware - leaf litter and birds tend to make a mess of our benches and rock walls. After the walk, we will get together for a coffee and chat.
Meet at Visitor Information Centre, Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens at 10.15 to register.
