This course offers a broad introduction to ancient Egypt, covering the Predynastic to New Kingdom periods (3500-1070BC). It explores Egyptian gods & pharaohs, tombs & temples, medicine & mummification, art & literature, and everyday life through archaeological discoveries. Together, we will unravel myths about Egyptian religion, pyramids, daily life, magic, sex, childbirth, slavery, and death, with a focus on material culture and social agency. The course embraces current issues in heritage, conservation, and repatriation, encouraging lively discussion in curiosity-driven environment.
Venue: 232 Adelaide St
Friday 11.00am - 12.30pm. 7 weeks. Tutor will be away 20th & 27th Feb. Classes start 30 January, finish 13 March.
Cost: $35 (prepaid), 7 weeks

About the Tutor:

Dr. Serena Love is an archaeologist and educator renowned for making ancient Egypt accessible and engaging for adult learners. With 28 years of fieldwork and university experience, she delivers lively and engaging lectures, leads interactive workshops, and widely shares archaeological science through hands-on activities and community outreach. Dr. Love earned her PhD from Stanford University and had worked in Egypt, Israel, Turkey and Iraq. Her dynamic teaching style and real-world experience help participants of all backgrounds connect with the wonders of ancient Egyptian civilization.
