This is a two term course
Permaculture is a design system for ecological and sustainable living. We aim to develop a system that is ecologically sound and economically profitable. In such a system, natures' principles are intentionally applied. The founder used to be a lumberjack in Tasmania and noticed the abundant production of the forest, even though no one waters, weeds, fertilises, or applies pesticides. Even so, fertiliser or pesticides are (technology is) not demonised. The elements of the forest work together to support each other, such that the life of all is improved. This course gives you the understanding to do a design yourself.
Wednesday 7.00pm - 9.00pm. Classes started 28 January, finish 1 April.
Cost: $25 (prepaid), 10 weeks
Current Enrolments: 1
The founder travelled the world to learn about living systems from other cultures and incorporated that knowledge. We can save up to 30% of our income, with well designed living landscapes, with off grid water, food, heating and cooling. We can also create better health, more life security and dignity and care for the environment more.
Many times it has been proven since the first design course in the 80's, that after the implementation of a design, a property only needs about 10 hours work per week to maintain production of almost all of one's basic needs. There are properties with established designs, green and with abundant water, surrounded by cattle properties in severe drought. All the properties get the same amount of rain, but the designed property keeps the rain on the property for possibly years, instead most of the rain running off in half an hour. That is just one aspect in the design master template: water, access, elements (buildings, plants, animals) in that order. A Permaculture design brings water, food and hopefully cultural security.
There is 2 hours of class video, then about an hour's reading of the text per week and suggested further video to watch. At the end one would do a design.

About the Tutor:
I completed a major in Mandarin Chinese at UQ in 2004. I have studied a few languages and taught beginners' Thai in the main Brisbane Thai Buddhist Temple's Thai Cultural School, near Browns Plains. There I found out that the native primary school trained teachers, did not have experience teaching the tones, because they had only taught primary students, who were already fluent speakers. Thai and Chinese grammars are very similar and they are both tonal languages. I did a Permaculture Design Certificate in 1994 and 2013.If you are a U3A Brisbane member you may enrol in this class online using the Enrol button below.
