H55 Investigating Colonial Control of Queensland's First Nations People

Tutor: Dan Feehely
This is a follow-up, 'Level 2', course to "Investigating Queensland History". We will investigate, in 5 fortnightly sessions, the ideas behind the events that we covered in that 'Level 1' course: The Law and Dreaming, Terra Nullius, "Protection", The Law and How It Is Used, and Sovereignty. We will again rely on document studies but they will take us into philosophy, legal studies and politics as well as narrative history. If you have not taken the 'Level 1' course you would still be welcome but you might like to do them in order when we re-present the courses in later terms.
Venue: 232 Adelaide St
Thursday 11.00am - 12.30pm. 5 weeks. Fortnightly, 30 Apr, 14, 28 May, 11, 25 Jun. Classes start 30 April, finish 28 May.
Cost: $15 (prepaid), 3 weeks
Current Enrolments: 20  (maximum 35)

About the Tutor:

I have taught Humanities - mainly History, Ancient and Modern - for 30 years in High Schools in 4 countries. I engaged in Aboriginal education from early in my career which led me to a life-long interest in Australia’s First Nations peoples role in our history. We will examine the European- Australian laws of the time in relation to First Nations' land ownership and its implications on issues faced in modern Australia. The course will provide the opportunity to sift through the evidence to arrive at your own conclusion.
