M19 Music is Magic, so let's discover how it works (part two)

This term we explore the influence of music in a historical and cultural context. The true magic happens when you know more about how and why music is made. During this course, youll be listening to extracts from a wide selection of the great music of yesteryear, as well as modern musical styles. Youll also experience a substantial increase in the psychological benefits of listening to music. We explore music as an art in many categories. For example; Aesthetics, Emotional value; Intrinsic value, Consumption and performance. Topics may include Film Stage & TV; Celebration
Venue: 288 Edward St
Monday 1.00pm - 2.15pm. Classes started 13 July, finish 14 September.
Cost: $50 (prepaid), 10 weeks
Current Enrolments: 16  (capacity 45)


We explore music as an art in many categories. For example; Aesthetics, Emotional value; Intrinsic value, Consumption and performance. Topics may include Film Stage & TV; Celebrations; Dance; Patriotic; Military Music; Humour; and much more. We will enjoy it together.

About the Tutor:

Bernie’s long career in music encompasses: Professional trumpet playing;
Teaching classroom music;
Lecturing in ”music" and "music-teacher education" (QUT);Adjudicating; and
Conducting Orchestras and Bands.
Bernie has been awarded an OAM for service to music through brass and concert bands. (2019)
