Plastics are always in the News: We seem to be drowning in plastic waste and polluting our oceans, so what are governments doing to address this? Could better recycling help? Can we get our plastics from sustainable sources rather than fossil fuels and can they be made biodegradable? What are microplastics and are they a health hazard? Are there enough good uses for plastics to make solving these problems worthwhile or should all plastics be banned? These are some of the questions this course will address. No prerequisite knowledge of chemistry or polymers is needed, and concepts will be introduced within an intuitive framework.

Thursday 9.30am - 10.45am. 9 weeks. Classes started 16 July, finish 10 September.

About the Tutor:
I have been a researcher, teacher, and consultant for over 45 years on the chemistry, properties, and performance of polymers (plastics, coatings, rubbers, textiles, and composite materials) and the way that they perform when in different environments (including in the body).
