This is a term very familiar to Queenslanders. However, as the saying goes everything old is new again. In reality the theory underpinning this approach to crime has its origins in the 18th century. This course shows how in order to reduce crime we must first determine the causes of crime. Hence this course examines the prominent theories put forward to explain crime from the Middle Ages to present time and then critically examines the policies and implications flowing from theories to reduce crime.
