U13 The Psychology of adapting to life's transitions     NEW

Tutor: Richard Wall
Sometimes we anticipate life dramas like getting married or deciding to retire. However, other transitions are unexpected like losing a job, a sudden health crisis, or the unexpected loss of a relationship or loved one. Life sucks! BUT, did you know Transitions ARE more than Change? Whilst a change is external and situational, a TRANSITION is psychological! Its the inner emotional process that you must use if you are to manage whats happening to you as your identity changes. And psychologists have discovered maps for these journeys.
Venue: 288 Edward St
Wednesday 9.15am - 10.45am. 5 weeks. Classes started 7 October, finish 4 November.
Cost: $25 (prepaid), 5 weeks
Current Enrolments: 27  (full capacity)

This new yet short 5 session course follows my previous Introductions to Neuropsychology. Providing the latest road maps, not therapy.
Managing life transitions successfully requires understanding how our brain processes uncertainty, grief and identity shifts by attempting to reduce nervous system stress. Why does this Brain Struggle with Change???
Its a Threat response: Your brain treats those new unknown emotions and cognitions just like physical danger, flooding your body with stress hormones.
Youve lost your memory scripts: Daily habits disappear, forcing your mind to work harder to figure out simple routines.
Theres Identity Friction: Shifting roles (like becoming a parent or changing jobs) makes people question who they are.
Wow, So many Mixed feelings: Fear, excitement, grief, and hope all show up AT THE SAME TIME!
Im looking for about 20 U3Aers who are interested in exploring some current psychological roadmaps across these difficult terrains.
