The course is designed to help participants feel more confident, informed and secure when using technology in everyday life. This course is designed for people who want to use technology with greater confidence and less uncertainty. It will focus on the kinds of cyber risks people encounter in everyday life rather than on technical cybersecurity.
Topics will include identifying common scams, recognising phishing emails and fraudulent text messages, safer password practices, protecting personal and financial information, online banking and shopping, social media safety, mobile phone security, suspicious websites, identity theft and what to do if an account or device may have been compromised.
Real-world examples will be used throughout the course to show how scams and cybercrime actually occur and why they can be so convincing. Participants will also learn simple practical steps that can significantly reduce their personal cyber risk.
The course is intended to be relaxed, practical and interactive, with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion. Participants do not need any previous cybersecurity or technical knowledge. The aim is not to make people afraid of technology, but to help them understand the risks and feel more confident using the digital services that have become part of everyday life.
