HOW WE OPERATE

To attend our classes, you must first become a member. Membership is for a calendar year and costs $45 per annum. You can then enrol in classes via the Class Search page. District (suburban) classes are generally free of charge, but our City Campus classes require an upfront fee for the term. There is also a fee for Zoom online classes to cover the cost of software licences. There are 4 terms per year based on Qld school terms.

 

HOW TO JOIN AS A NEW MEMBER

Join U3A Brisbane

New Members can join U3A Brisbane by completing our Online Application form. You can pay your membership fees by debit/credit card, PayPal or bank transfer.

The annual membership fee is $45, which covers the costs of administration, insurance etc. For classes at our City Campus venues (Creek St or Adelaide St), there is a weekly class fee of $5 to cover the cost of the premises, but classes at other venues are often free of charge. Classes at our City Campus are payable upfront before classes start. Some district classes may incur a small weekly fee for resources, room hire or printed notes. If you are a current member of another U3A, you are eligible for Affiliate membership of U3A Brisbane at a concessional rate of $15. For confirmation, you will need to show the office your current membership card for the other U3A.

Membership is for the current calendar year, but if you join U3A Brisbane on or after 1st September your subscription will be current to end of the following year. The class terms generally match State School Terms, but some classes may be conducted during holiday breaks.

Some of our popular classes may be full at certain times. If you plan to join U3A in order to attend a particular class, you should contact the tutor first to ensure that there are vacancies in that class.

U3A Brisbane is a voluntary organisation dedicated to providing learning opportunities for seniors. Members are typically in retirement or semi-retirement and over 50 years of age.

The University of the Third Age has no exams or certificates and all our staff and tutors are volunteers.

Our present Public Liability Insurance cover is $20Million.

 

HOW TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP IF YOU ARE AN EXISTING MEMBER

Renew U3A Brisbane Membership


If you are a current or returning member of U3A Brisbane, membership fees are due on 1st January each year but you can renew at any time before then. You may renew your membership even if you are not current for the prior year.

You may renew by any of the following methods:

  1. By debit/credit card or PayPal online via our secure Payment Gateway. Select Member Payment in the menu above. No need to login as you will be asked to identify yourself by membership number and surname.
  2. By direct Bank Transfer. For bank information please use Member Payment page, or call the U3A office. Please make sure you quote your Membership Number and surname as Reference when paying by bank transfer.
  3. By credit card over the phone to 3236 3055. Do not send credit card details by email.
  4. By cheque in the mail, or cash/credit card in person at the U3A office. Please quote your membership number if renewing by mail. Our mailing address is: U3A Brisbane, 97 Creek St. Brisbane 4000.

HOW TO ENROL IN A CLASS

You need to be a U3A Brisbane member before you can attend a class.

To enrol, either contact the tutor directly by email or phone, or enrol through the Class Search page by clicking on a class of interest. You will see a button labelled 'Enrol in This Class'. Click that button and you will be asked for your membership number and surname for identification purposes. It is not necessary to login to the website with a username and password in order to enrol in a class.

If you are enrolled in an existing class, you can re-enrol for the following term using the Member Dashboard page. In some cases, tutors will roll class members forward to a new term.

The tutor may need to confirm your enrolment. Some classes have requirements for pre-existing knowledge, e.g. computer classes.

In any direct communications with a tutor please advise your U3A Brisbane membership number, or indicate your intention to join.

CLASS FEES

Class Fees

Your class fees fund the cost of our classroom premises and equipment.

For face-to-face classes at our City Campus venues (Creek St or Adelaide St), class fees are payable upfront for each term at the rate of $5 per class week, i.e. $50 for a typical term with 10 weekly classes. Classes at other venues are often free of charge. Zoom online classes have a fee of $25 per term, which covers the cost of the necessary software licences. Class fees can be paid through the Member Payment page.
